Justice Our Way puts First Nations people at the heart of justice reform
Justice Our Way is about developing a plan for action that reflects the priorities of the local First Nations community. It is about coming together to shape a roadmap to prevent and reduce First Nations Peoples contact with the criminal justice system in Townsville.
Having a plan will mean we can work together, better directing resources to areas that can make the biggest change, designing cultural solutions, leading systems reform, closing services gaps and strengthening existing services and programs.
An Initiative of Elders for Change
Elders for Change (EFC) is a collective of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders committed to empowering their community in achieving and maintaining self-determination. This group includes Traditional Owners, Community Elders, and Elders across the North-West Region.
Justice Our Way is led by Elders for Change - a movement led by Elders, driven by culture, and powered by community.
Justice Reinvestment shifts funding and resources away from prisons and into communities. It invests in local, community-led solutions that address the root causes of crime, such as poor housing, health, education, and employment outcomes.
By strengthening these foundations, Justice Reinvestment empowers communities to lead change, lower incarceration rates, and build safer, stronger, and more sustainable futures for everyone.
